Construite entre 1752 et 1755 à la demande de Stanislas, dernier duc de Lorraine, la place Stanislas était avant la Révolution française une place Royale dédiée à la gloire du Roi de France Louis XV. Souhaitant remercier son gendre de lui avoir offert le duché de Lorraine et chargé de préparer le rattachement du territoire au Royaume, Stanislas y a multiplié les symboles français. Détruite en 1792, la statue du Roi Louis XV a été remplacée par celle de Stanislas en 1831. Celui-ci pointe de son doigt le sommet de l’Arc de Triomphe qui lui fait face, au sommet duquel est encore représenté le profil de Louis.

Built between 1752 and 1755 by Stanislas, last duke of Lorraine, the Stanislas square was a square dedicated to the french king Louis the 15th. Stanislas wanted to thanks his son in law to offer him the territory of Lorraine. The main mission of Stanislas was to prepare Lorraine to be attached to the french kingdom after his death. He represented a lot of french symbols on the square. The sculpture of Louis the 15th was demolished in 1792 and replaced by the one of Stanislas in 1831. Stanislas is showing the top of the arc of triumph where is sculpted the king of France.
