La bataille de Nancy est l’un des événements historiques les plus importants de l’histoire du duché de Lorraine. La capitale lorraine, assiégée par le duc de Bourgogne Charles le Téméraire, fut délivrée par les troupes du duc René II le 5 janvier 1477. Le Téméraire y trouva la mort sur le champs de bataille sous les coups du sir de Bauzemont. Eugène Delacroix peindra cet événement en 1831 pour le musée nancéien. Le tableau, toujours exposé au Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nancy, présente la seconde avant la mort de Charles le Téméraire. Désarmé, désarçonné de son cheval, les yeux injectés de sang, il voit la lance du sir de Bauzemont qui va lui ôter la vie.

The battle of Nancy is one of the most important event in the history of duchy of Lorraine. The capital was besieged by the troups of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy. The city was delivered the 5th of January 1477 by the Duke of Lorraine René II. During the battle, Charles the Bold was killed by sir of Bauzemont. Eugene Delacroix painted this event in 1831 for the museum of Nancy. He chose to represent the second before the death of Charles the Bold.
