L’artiste peint ici sa fille Jeanne Julie Louise Le Brun, dite Brunette, née le 12 février 1780. La perspective et le jeu de miroir permettent de voir à la fois le profil et le visage de face. From the petty bourgeoisie, she met the most powerfull people, becoming the official painter of the queen Marie-Antoinette. She fled France during the Revolution for being too close to the monarchy. The artist painted her daughter, Jeanne Julie Louise Le Brun, aka Brunette, born the 12th of february 1780. Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun stated purpose was to represent her daughter in profile and full-face. Her husband, art dealer, probably sold paintings with this kind of artistic composition that inspired her to do this painting.
